Welcome to the home page for the Second Judicial District, State of Idaho. The Second Judicial District includes the counties of Clearwater, Latah, Lewis, Idaho and Nez Perce located in North Central Idaho.

The Administrative Judge of the Second District is the District Judge Jay P. Gaskill, whose chambers are located in the Nez Perce County Courthouse in Lewiston, Idaho.

NOTICE OF RECRUITMENT, FIFTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT

MAGISTRATE JUDGE FOR JEROME COUNTY

 The Magistrates Commission of the Fifth Judicial District is seeking applicants for two Magistrate Judge positions in Jerome County. One position is new and is available October 1, 2018.  The other position will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Thomas Borresen on October 31, 2018.

Effective July 1, 2015, to be appointed to the office of magistrate judge, a person must, at the time of appointment, meet all of the following qualifications:

  1. Be at least (30) thirty years of age;
  2. Be a citizen of the United States;
  3. Have been a legal resident of the state of Idaho for at least two (2) continuous years immediately preceding such appointment;
  4. Have been in good standing as an active or judicial member of the Idaho state bar for at least two (2) continuous years immediately preceding such appointment; and
  5. Have held a license to practice law or held a judicial office in one (1) or more jurisdictions for at least five (5) continuous years immediately preceding such appointment. 
  6. Be a qualified elector of the State of Idaho
  7. After appointment, reside in the county for which the magistrate judge is appointed. 

 Appointees are subject to be assigned to hear cases throughout the judicial district, and may also be assigned outside the district by the Idaho Supreme Court.  Effective July 1, 2018, the annual salary for the position is $123,400 plus state benefits.
