Welcome to the home page for the Second Judicial District, State of Idaho. The Second Judicial District includes the counties of Clearwater, Latah, Lewis, Idaho and Nez Perce located in North Central Idaho.

The Administrative Judge of the Second District is the District Judge Jeff Brudie, whose chambers are located in the Nez Perce County Courthouse in Lewiston, Idaho.

Idaho Rule of Professional Conduct 8.2(a) prohibits a lawyer from making a statement “that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to its truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge … or of a candidate for election or appointment to judicial or legal office.”

NOTICE OF OPPORTUNITY TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR THE

POSITION OF DISTRICT JUDGE OF THE FIFTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT

 Notice is hereby given that the Judicial Council is now accepting applications for the position of District Judge of the Fifth Judicial District.  The Idaho Judicial Council is starting the process of selecting nominees to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of the Honorable G. Richard Bevan to the Idaho Supreme Court. 

 The salary of a district judge is $131,700.00.  (Comprehensive information about the benefits afforded district judges is available by clicking here (hyperlink).  The judge shall hear cases in Twin Falls County as well as in other counties within the Fifth Judicial District to which he or she may be assigned.

 Under Idaho Code § 34-616 (5), to be appointed to the office of district judge, a person must, at the time of appointment meet all the following qualifications:

 (a) Be at least thirty (30) years of age;

(b) Be a citizen of the United States and an elector in the state of Idaho;

(c) Have been a legal resident of the state of Idaho for at least two (2) continuous years

immediately preceding such appointment;

(d) Have been in good standing as an active or judicial member of the Idaho state bar for

at least two (2) continuous years immediately preceding such appointment; and

(e) Have held a license to practice law or held a judicial office in one (1) or more

jurisdictions for at least ten (1 0) continuous years immediately preceding such

appointment.

         In addition, as described in Idaho Code 1-809, district judges shall actually reside at the place designated as resident chambers.

Cantrill, Executive Director of the Judicial Council.  You must use the revised 7/20/2017 application form.  The application form is available on CD using WordPerfect or MSWord from the Judicial Council upon request.  COMPLETED APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL NO LATER THAN 5:00 P.M., OCTOBER 3, 2017.  Applications should be submitted to:

 Immediately following receipt of the applications, the Judicial Council will circulate a questionnaire to the Bar via e-mail and to the general public concerning the qualifications of the applicants and will notify each applicant of the time and date for personal interviews.  The Council is currently planning to meet on December 13, 2017, in Twin Falls, Idaho for interviews and selection of the nominees.

Public Questionnaire regarding candidates for the position of District Judge for the Seventh Judicial District in Jefferson County created by the retirement of the Honorable Alan C. Stephens. A news release is being distributed to advise the public that these questionnaires are available from the Clerk’s office. The Judicial Council would appreciate your cooperation in making these questionnaires available to persons in the Clerk’s offices who will be able to make them available to the public. Please make copies of the questionnaire as needed, or if you cannot make copies at your office, please feel free to call me at 334-5213. The questionnaires must be returned to the Judicial Council by September 25, 2017.

NOTICE OF RECRUITMENT FOURTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT

MAGISTRATE JUDGE – ADA COUNTY

             The Magistrates Commission of the Fourth Judicial District is seeking applicants for the position of Magistrate Judge for Ada County to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Kevin Swain.  The position will be available January 8, 2018 and will be chambered in the Ada County Courthouse in Boise, Idaho and the position will handle all magistrate level case types.  

             Effective July 1, 2015, to be appointed to the office of magistrate judge, a person must, at the time of appointment, meet all of the following qualifications:

 Be at least (30) thirty years of age;

  1. Be a citizen of the United States;
  2. Have been a legal resident of the state of Idaho for at least two (2) continuous years immediately preceding such appointment;
  3. Have been in good standing as an active or judicial member of the Idaho state bar for at least two (2) continuous years immediately preceding such appointment;
  4. Have held a license to practice law or held a judicial office in one (1) or more jurisdictions for at least five (5) continuous years immediately preceding such appointment;
  5. Be a qualified elector of the State of Idaho; and
  6. After appointment, reside in the county for which the magistrate judge is appointed. 

 The appointee may be assigned to hear cases throughout the judicial district, and may also be assigned outside the district by the Idaho Supreme Court.  The annual salary for the position is $119,700.00, plus state benefits.
